A book talk was held featuring “Kinship, Patriarchal Structure and Women’s Bargaining with Patriarchy in Rural Sindh, Pakistan,” authored by Prof. Dr Nadia Agha, a Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. This book has recently been recognized as the best book by HEC Islamabad. The session, moderated by Dr. Qasim Sodhar, In-Charge of the Faculty of Heritage at Aror University, Sukkur, adopted a conversational format. Dr. Agha shared her motivation for writing the book and elaborated on its contents as well as the research techniques employed. She discussed the status of women in Pakistan, comparing it to that of women in the first world, and shed light on the concepts of patriarchy and feminism in the context of prevailing social norms and values. Furthermore, Dr. Agha proposed various paths forward for improving the status of women and achieving both gender equality and equity. The session was highly interactive, with students from diverse fields actively participating, sharing their thoughts and experiences, and posing insightful questions, all of which were addressed thoughtfully by the author. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Qasim Sodhar and Ms. Uzma Memon, Student Counsellor, presented souvenirs to the author as tokens of appreciation for her contributions.
