About University
The Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design & Heritage Sukkur (AU Sukkur) is situated in Aror, ancient historical town, once capital of Sindh, where the final battle between King (Raja) Dahir and Muhammad Bin Qasim took place. The University aims to become a Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is one of the Unique in its own way not only the disciplines to be offered here but in reviving the traditional values,
appreciating the cultural and religious diversity of the region.
Initially, the foundation of AU Sukkur was laid down as Sindh College of Arts & Design, under the Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology. Later in 2018, to upgrade the college to full-fledged University, the bill was moved by MPA Syed Awais Qadir Shah of PPP to the provincial assembly of Sindh. Afterwards, Sindh Assembly passed the University Act on 15th June, 2020 for the establishment of Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage, Sukkur.
Since long time, the University remained non-functional and under construction making it bleak and lifeless. The inadequate possibilities of art education and waning opportunities for the emerging artists in the region and beyond created a success more elusive. Keeping in view the dire need of time, Government of Sindh desired services of the eminent figure of the Education sector, Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, also a nominated recipient of Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in the field of Education. On 20th May 2022, Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (former VC of the BNB Women University Sukkur) assumed the charge of Vice Chancellor (Acting) at the AU Sukkur, steering it towards working smart and hard to make it a unique Higher Education Institution keeping quality and standards as primary concern.
On 12th August 2022, Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Federal Minister for Water Resources, inaugurated the University to roll off the Academic Session for the 2022-23. The inauguration was more than just ribbon cutting as the University launched Open Air Museum, Arts & Crafts Gallery, Aror Boutique, and unveiled First Ever Wax Sculpture of `Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’ on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan.
The Open Air Museum housed landscape model of “Battle of Aror – King Dahir’s Fort Life” and “Manchar Lake and life around”, as first two debutants of the Museum.
The Arts & Crafts Gallery is established to provide the platform for our faculty and students to showcase their creations to the art lovers and register themselves as “most sought” artists of the region, thereby generating revenue for the University and themselves. The Gallery shall also be open for regional artists to provide them with the similar opportunities to promote art and artists.
Moreover, University’s Faculty of Design has brought a unique collection of apparel, handmade jewelry, accessories & ceramic ware as Aror Boutique- be traditionally fashionable.
Last but not the least, the Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design and Heritage Sukkur launched Wax Sculptures inspired by Madame Tassaude’s wax museum for the first time in Pakistan, on 12th August 2022 on the Inaugural Ceremony. To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan, who could be more iconic than “Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto” to be celebrated and her wax sculpture to be the First One hosted and housed in this unique addition in Pakistan’s local artistic creation.
The Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design & Heritage Sukkur, probably, be the First Ever University launching with employability scope of the degree programs to be offered in the field of Fine art, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Fashion/ Textile Design, and Archaeology by Fall 2022.
