Dr. Muhammad Waris

The academic and research background of Dr. Muhammad Waris in environmental analytical chemistry, phytoremediation, heavy-metal contamination, and advanced instrumental analysis. He earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. His doctoral research focused on the analytical profiling of aquatic and terrestrial plants and evaluation of their potential for the phytoremediation of trace and toxic elements from contaminated and saline soils. Dr. Waris also holds an M.Phil. in analytical chemistry from the University of Sindh, where his research involved the evaluation of roxarsone in poultry feed and litter and the development of electrochemical approaches for its determination. He further strengthened his international research experience as a research fellow at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Türkiye, where he worked in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Analytical Chemistry, on targeted and untargeted metabolomic profiling of plants using GC-MS and LC-MS techniques. His current research interests include microplastic-heavy metal interactions in aquatic ecosystems, adsorption and bioaccumulation of toxic metals, environmental risk assessment, development of rapid and cost-effective analytical methods for heavy-metal determination, metabolomics, and phytoremediation using halophytic plants. He has hands-on experience with a range of analytical techniques, including atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS and GFAAS/ETAAS), UV spectroscopy, voltammetry, GC-MS, and LC-MS. He has contributed to research in environmental pollution, saline-soil remediation, trace-metal speciation, electrochemical analysis, metabolomics, and environmental health, with publications appearing in journals such as Arabian Journal of Geosciences, Environmental Earth Sciences, International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology, Microchemical Journal, and Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy. His academic interests are centered on applying modern analytical chemistry to address practical environmental challenges, particularly those related to soil and water contamination, sustainable remediation, and environmental monitoring.
