Dr. Rashid Ali

Dr. Rashid Ali is a Lecturer in Archaeology at the Faculty of Heritage, Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design & Heritage, Sindh. He holds a Ph.D. in Asian Studies from the Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, completed in 2025. He also holds an M.Phil. in Asian Studies and an M.Sc. in Archaeology from the same institute. His academic training encompasses archaeology, ancient history of South Asia, Indus Civilization, prehistory, museology, numismatics, cultural heritage management, and research methodology.

Dr. Ali's research focuses particularly on the archaeology, history, and cultural heritage of Sindh and the wider Indus region. His doctoral research, “History and Archaeology of District Ghotki: A Case Study of Vijnōte, Sindh (Pakistan),” reflects his sustained interest in archaeological landscapes, historical settlements, material culture, and the relationship between archaeology and regional history. He has undertaken archaeological surveys, documentation, and excavations at several important sites, including Vijnōte and archaeological locations in Ghotki, Taxila, Badalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. His research and professional work also incorporates digital archaeology and heritage documentation, with technical experience in GIS, QGIS, 3D photogrammetry, LiDAR, drone-based data collection, digital visualization, and specialized documentation of archaeological materials, including coins and pottery.

Dr. Ali has contributed to archaeological and historical scholarship through research publications and projects, including his work on the ancient city of Vijnōte and the built heritage of Sukkur. He has also served in academic and editorial roles at Aror University, including membership of the Academic Council and Board of Studies.

His broader academic interests lie at the intersection of archaeology, history, heritage studies, digital documentation, and the cultural landscapes of Sindh and South Asia. He is particularly interested in using archaeological and material evidence to reconstruct the historical development of regions and communities that remain underrepresented in conventional historical narratives.
