Biography
Kainat Thebo is a filmmaker, photographer, and academic born in Sindh, Pakistan. She graduated from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, and holds a bachelor’s degree and an MS in Film & TV. She has worked as a Video Producer at Lok Virsa (the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage), the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), and PTV World in Islamabad. At the Institute for Art and Culture (IAC) in Lahore, she also served as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Film & TV Department.
Her practice explores artistic, experimental, and cultural narratives through lens-based media. She is also a fine art photographer whose work has been exhibited in galleries locally and internationally. She has received prestigious film grants from Seeds of Peace, the U.S. Consulate, Arts Council England, and SOC Films. Her award-winning films have been screened internationally across the Americas, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Her accolades include the Best Film Award at the Women International Film Festival in 2023. She has also served as a jury member for film festivals, advised film labs, and taught film courses across America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.
