Samina Junejo

Textile Designer | Design Educator | Fashion & Textile Researcher

Samina Junejo is a design educator, textile designer, and fashion and textile researcher with over 16 years of combined experience in the textile industry and academia. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Fashion Design at Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design & Heritage, Sukkur, and as the Focal Person for Industry Liaison and Linkages for the Faculty of Design. Her academic and professional work focuses on design education, industry engagement, sustainable fashion, textile innovation, and cultural heritage preservation. She has also contributed to academic administration and student development as Summer Semester Coordinator and previously as Warden of the Girls' Hostel at Aror University. Samina Junejo also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro University of Art, Design, Culture & Heritage, Jamshoro, where she teaches textile design and contributes to the supervision and evaluation of final-year design and research projects. Before entering academia, she gained extensive experience in Pakistan's fashion and textile industry, working with organizations including Gul Ahmed, Bonanza, Orient Textile Mills, Salitex, and Shariq Textiles. Her professional expertise includes CAD and digital textile design, print and embroidery development, colour and trend forecasting, concept development, and production coordination. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Textile Design from Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro University and a Master's degree in Design, Marketing and Merchandising from AIFD–Iqra University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of sustainable fashion, textile innovation, cultural heritage, consumer behaviour, and digital fashion. Her current research manuscript, “Weaving Continuity,” explores the integration of traditional Sindhi textile crafts, particularly Ajrak and Rilli, with sustainable banana-fibre textiles for contemporary fashion applications. Her broader research interests include sustainable textiles, indigenous textile heritage, natural fibres, digital and virtual fashion, digital fashion branding, and cultural influences on dress. In 2025, she represented Aror University at an international summer camp hosted by Dalian Polytechnic University, China. She is also involved in the Indigo Project, contributing to sustainable and environmentally responsible textile research. Additionally, she has served as an External Jury Member at Jinnah University for Women, Karachi, and has completed professional development training in higher education assessment, SAP/ERP systems, STEAM education, and student engagement pedagogy. Through her combined experience in industry, academia, research, and industry–academia collaboration, Samina Junejo continues to contribute to fashion and textile education, sustainable design, cultural heritage preservation, and innovation within Pakistan's creative industries.
